NGRE have completed the installation of new solar PV systems on an Oxford City Council housing development, helping the city on its way to becoming a net zero carbon city.
NGRE, working with The Oxford Electrical Company and the city council’s housing company, Oxford City Housing Limited, installed the solar PV systems on 6 new-build homes at the development on the site of the former Royal British Legion club in Barton, Oxford.
The new homes, which will be owned and managed by Oxford City Council, will be part Social Rent and part Affordable Rent, with the tenants able to benefit from free, green electricity provided by the systems.
The Systems
Each system comprises 8, 340w solar panels (2.720kWp) and are estimated to produce up to 2,500kWh of green electricity each per year. They feature SolarEdge power optimisers to maximise performance and feed into a 3kW SolarEdge inverter. The panel array is integrated into the roof using a GSE In-roof mounting system for a sleek, flush finish.
Green Targets
Oxford City Council declared a climate emergency in 2019. It aims to achieve zero carbon by 2030 through its Carbon Management Plan, taking measures such as ensuring Council tenants and purchasers of Council-built homes are supported as much as possible to engage in low-carbon lifestyles and supporting the installation of renewable energy across the city. It has also developed the Net Zero Oxford Action Plan with partners from across the city to achieve net zero carbon as a city by 2040.
NGRE
NGRE Managing Director, Greg Bishop, said: “NGRE are proud and excited to be working with The Oxford Electrical Company and Oxford City Council on projects such as this that will play its part in making a real difference.
“It’s clear that this is not just a box ticking exercise, where a developer will use one or two panels.
“The Council is clearly serious about its commitments and have maxed-out the size of the arrays.”
He added: “This is our second project working with The Oxford Electrical Company, and we’re already looking at collaborating on more projects.”
Why NGRE?
Nick Hill, director of The Oxford Electrical Company, said: “We’ve enjoyed a great relationship with NGRE throughout this project, with the open dialogue to make changes quickly, as and when required, being particularly refreshing.
“We have relied on their experience and expertise, and they have delivered on time and on budget, with no hassle. We would welcome working with them again on future projects.”
